Congratulations,

Executive Program Class of 2024!

LSM celebrated the culmination of its 16th Executive Program with the graduation of the Class of 2024 on June 6th at Historic Sotterley. The 35-member class completed a 9-month program exploring issues of concern to Southern Maryland in the areas of economic and workforce development, education, healthcare, public safety, housing and human services, and more.

The graduation ceremony featured rousing remarks by class member Stephanie Rolle, CEO of the United Way of Southern Maryland, who was elected by her colleagues to represent them.

The Class of 2024 presented LSM a check for $20,657, their class gift to establish the LSM Leadership Legacy Scholarship Fund.

"The inspiration for this fund was my intent to pay it forward," said Perliter Walters-Gilliam, president of NBBE Consulting. "I am a recipient of the LSM Small Business Scholarship. Having received that scholarship, my plan was to pay it forward and provide a scholarship to LSM. While I was thinking about the class gift, my thought was, instead of my blessing one or two students in the future, why not make it be something that blesses a number of executives in the Southern Maryland region to have a long-lasting impact?"

The Class of 2024 will award four $1,500 scholarships to nonprofit and small business leaders selected for the Executive Program Class of 2025. They will invest the remaining funds for future awards.

John Felicitas, LSM '13

Presented the 2024 LSM Heritage Award

LSM Leadership Council member John Felicitas, LSM '13 receives LSM's highest honor, the LSM Heritage Award.

On June 6th, the LSM Board of Directors presented the 2024 LSM Heritage Award to John Felicitas, LSM '13, past president, and member of the LSM Leadership Council. LSM's highest honor recognizes the excellence of individuals and organizations in Leadership, Service, and Mentoring.

This is the first time the award has been presented since 2019. Traditionally, each year the award is presented for one of the three areas of excellence (Leadership, Service, or Mentoring). The LSM Board of Directors recognized Felicitas for his exceptional contributions to the Southern Maryland community in all three areas.

John Felicitas embodies the very essence of LSM's vision, “Southern Maryland leaders united for positive community impact," said LSM's immediate past president Tom Clark, LSM '18.  "His career, commitment, and leadership have profoundly impacted many, both in our community and beyond. He has dedicated 37 years of his life to education, influencing countless lives through his roles as a teacher, union organizer, human resource specialist, and high school administrator. He has taught students from elementary school to master's level courses. His leadership as an executive director for a 6,000-member teachers' union and as a senior policy analyst for the National Education Association highlights his dedication to advocating for educators and enhancing the quality of education. His current work as a diversity consultant and trainer for Be-AThEdge Consulting, along with his role on the diversity advisory board for the College of Southern Maryland, showcases his unwavering commitment to fostering inclusive environments and promoting diversity in all spheres of life. He has been a coach, motivator, and mentor to many, always striving to elevate the potential of those around him."

Congratulations, John, and thank you for being such an exemplar of servant leadership and beacon of inspiration!
